A Pulitzer for an HRDAG partner

In May, to HRDAG’s delight, our dear colleague Trina Reynolds-Tyler won a 2024 Pulitzer Prize in Local Reporting. As the director of data at the Invisible Institute, a grassroots journalism organization in Chicago, Trina and reporter Sarah Conway of City Bureau received the Pulitzer for their story on how police mishandled missing person cases, a crisis that disproportionately affects Black women and girls.

HRDAG has partnered with the Institute since 2017, helping Trina and her team use data to tell stories that urgently need to be told. In 2019, Trina was a human rights intern at HRDAG, and when she came on board that summer she said, “HRDAG seems like the perfect small team that reminds me of a supportive family.” After her internship, she reflected on how she learned that data science could help people realize they were not alone in their experiences.

Many congratulations to Trina!
