Ayyub joined HRDAG as a consultant in 2024. He is a data scientist and a member of the Berkeley Institute for Data Science’s CLEAN police project, where he uses AI and machine learning to process unstructured data. As the Director of Research at the Innocence Project New Orleans, Ayyub built machine-learning tools for community organizations, innocence organizations, and public defender offices, and it’s through his work at IPNO that he collaborated with HRDAG on the Louisiana Law Enforcement Accountability Database, known as LLEAD.

Ayyub is also the founder of Machine Learning Justice Lab, a startup that develops AI tools for legal and human rights defense communities, and the co-creator of the National Police Index, a national database that tracks police employment history and misconduct, also done in collaboration with HRDAG and with the Invisible Institute.

Our work has been used by truth commissions, international criminal tribunals, and non-governmental human rights organizations. We have worked with partners on projects on five continents.
