Video: Tarah Shah Interview on Meet a Mathematician
Tarak Shah, a data scientist for the Human Rights Data Analysis Group, recently appeared on Meet a Mathematician. Watch the interview here:
Tarak said:
“A thing that gives me a lot of motivation is that a lot of the work that’s most important to do, you can do. It’s just mostly effort that is required.
“For me that means a lot because you look at all the huge problems in the world, and you are trying to find ways to plug in. And it turns out—whether it is cooking a meal for somebody who’s hungry or cleaning some data so that you can do analysis on the things that we actually need to do to advance our work to make the world a little bit better— the main thing they require is somebody to care enough to do it. And that’s also extremely empowering. That doesn’t mean of course expertise isn’t required, but that’s also available through effort. None of this is gated in some special way, where your path to impact goes through being blessed by a special council of priests or something.
There’s just work to do.”
