Casanare Summary Tables

This csv file is organized specifically to enable replicating our analyses in our papers "To Count the Uncounted: An Estimation of Lethal Violence in Casanare" and "Measuring Elusive Populations with Bayesian Model Averaging for Multiple Systems Estimation: A Case Study on Lethal Violations in Casanare, 1998-2007". Our MSE analyses in these papers partitioned the 15 data sources into groups of three. Therefore, each row in this table represents one violation type (vln), one municipality (muni), one year, and one partition of data sources. A single partition may include one, two, or three data sources.

The 15 columns following vln, muni, and year correspond to our 15 data sources. A '1' in a column indicates that a data source is included in that partition, for that vln, muni, and year combination. A '0' indicates that data source is not included in that specific partition described in a given row. The Freq column counts up how many records are in each combination of data sources for a given violation (vln), municipality (muni) and year.

For example, the first row shows a '1' under d_CIN and '0's in all of the other data source columns, indicating that we are talking about records found only in the CIN dataset and nowhere else. The Freq column shows that 5 records were found in CIN for killings in Sacama in 1998.

For some violation type, municipality, and year combinations we do not have any data, and therefore there is no corresponding row in our table. For example, there is no row for disappearances in Sacama in 1998 because there were no records in any of our data sources for this specific stratum.

As another example, the rows for disappearances in Recetor in 1998 may at first be confusing. The first row of this set shows a '1' under d_FON and Freq, and '0's everywhere else, indicating that one record of a disappearance in Recetor in 1998 was provided by FON and no other data source. The next line shows '1's under d_FON, d_FSR, and d_GAU and a '1' under Freq. This indicates that one record of a disappearance in Recetor in 1998 was found in all three data sources – FON, FSR, and GAU. In other words, the same individual was identified as a victim of a disappearance in Recetor in 1998 in all three data sources.
